Aw, sweet slumber after good sex. I open my groggy eyes, feeling rested. Invigorated. A brand new woman...

Feckers!

The librarian. Minnie. Almost immediately, she starts to fade like fog in the Caribbean.

Oh no, I can't forget. Remember. This is life or death.

I reach out for a pen and paper, my hand meeting nothing but air.

"Oh!" I yip, rolling off the bed, flat onto the floor.

Dangit. That's right, I'm not in my bed or at my workstation. I'm in the bed of a seven foot alien hunk that just ravaged me like an April tsunami.

Save the inward swooning for later.

Right now...remember.

The dream continues to fade in the ether, the librarian's last important words desperately trying to hold onto the recesses of my memory.

A warning. A dire, fateful warning.

"Hells! Are you alright?"

A concerned Tysen stands in the doorway, a vision for my weary eyes. In his hand is a plate stacked with purple fruit, its citrus smell pungent yet sweet. Just like that, hunger takes over my brain, for him and the food he's brought, pushing whatever the heck I was thinking about before into the great beyond.

"I rolled off your cot. I think I bruised my coccyx."

He raises his eyebrows. "I didn't notice one on you earlier. You hide it well."

"Ha. Ha."

He holds out the plate. "Eat, Cora. You need your strength. And this is not a request."

No need to tell me twice. I study the grapefruit-looking fruit before picking a piece to pop into my mouth.

"Frell! It's like an explosion in my mouth."

"Not your first today," he says deadpan.

"You got jokes."

I rapidly munch down piece after piece. I think he's surprised by my appetite, because he looks down at the empty plate incredulously.

"Want the last bite?" I garble through a full mouth, trying to push a purple slice into his mouth.

The effects of the fruit are immediate and overwhelming. It's like a B-12 shot mixed with distilled caffeine mixed with 12 pounds of awesomeness. I feel it from my head all the way down to the nexus of my core, still crackling from Tysen's juicy lips.

He rubs one of his oversized fingers down my shoulder and breast, finally squeezing my tender nipple.

If it's a round 2 he wants, I'm definitely game.

But when I start to curl into him, he tenses up and pulls away. The whiplash of reactions catches me off guard. Tysen's face is a picture of restraint.

Fine. Self-control it is.

"I've been checking on the ship. Half the systems are online, but external communications is still inoperative, and the AI suffered a major memory dump. It's useless. Life support is a major concern. Nanobots are working overdrive to scrub the air.

"Kul's virus knew exactly what it was doing. We're fortunate to still be alive."

The dire nature of the situation strikes me. "Are we stuck here?"

"Impulse power still works, but q-warp might be a lost cause."

"Well, it's a good thing we're relatively close to Earth. How long will it take to get back?"

Tysen doesn't answer, maintaining his business-like demeanor. "I'm glad you enjoyed the r'ddinberry fruit.
